Sport & Recreation:
Extended patio and play area for the Pre-Prep

Fairfield’s youngest children would benefit very significantly from an extended patio and enclosed outdoor play area, which will support their development through recreation. The structural work is covered by the school budget and we need to raise a further £15,000 for play equipment and a safe enclosure.

Music:
Instruments and Workshops

Instruments: we have a wonderful Music School, but we still need new instruments! Some families and staff have kindly sponsored individual violins and cellos for Fairfield’s Yr2 class set, and there are still instruments available for naming. The Music School would also like to purchase a samba kit, to be used by all junior musicians and for outreach work with local partner schools.

Music Workshops: led by professionals, music workshops are a source of inspiration for young musicians and we’d like to run these on a regular basis, bringing the very best expertise to enrich music-making at LES.

We need to raise £5,000 for these music activities and resources.

LGS Sixth Form refurbishment

A key project at LGS this year is to restore and improve the Sixth Form Centre. The scheme will enlarge the current Sixth Form space to create independent study areas and improved social space. The original ceiling will be restored, and a mezzanine level created to reveal the original full length window at the south side of the tower. The estimated cost is £20,000.

Sport & Recreation:
A shared climbing wall

Climbing is already a popular extracurricular activity at LES but participants have to travel off site to climb. Working with the LGS PA and other funders, we plan to install a climbing wall for use by all three schools. The cost, including training for leaders, is around £30,000.

Sport & Recreation:
Electronic cricket scoreboard

Our cricketers have a consistent track record of success, we’d like to keep up to speed and up to date by installing an electronic score board; this will cost £5,000.

Academic:
Fit out new Biology Labs

With the completion of LGS Chemistry and the High School Science Buildings, the LES Science programme continues this year to refurbish LGS Biology (Murray). Whilst the bulk of the cost is being met from revenue, the Schools’ Fund can help to provide additional laboratory equipment needed for the new Biology teaching areas.

Bursaries:
Means tested fees assistance
for families in financial need

Each year the LES Foundation gives out around £1million in means-tested bursaries and academic scholarships, assisting some 400 students.

This year, however, the appeals from new families have been greater than ever before, and good applicants have been turned away because the Bursary fund cannot help all those in financial need. Your gift can make a life changing difference to a young person’s future, and ensure that the Endowed Schools maintain their commitment to educational access and the traditional ‘grammar school’ ethos.

We are grateful to all OLs, OGs, former parents and staff who are already sponsoring Bursary students at LES.

Academic:
LHS Yr 8&9 Charles refurbishment

The first floor of the Charles Building is the base for modern foreign languages and provides form rooms for our younger pupils in Years 8 and 9; it now needs to be brought up to the standard of the recently improved ground floor. Simple improvements costing around £30,000 would transform both the Charles and Chesterton buildings.

LHS Sixth Form Y13 Chesterton refurbishment

The LHS Parents’ Association generously funded the Year 12 (Lower Sixth) refurbishment in 2008, now the Year 13 (Upper Sixth) common room in the Chesterton Building needs a similar overhaul. Simple improvements costing around £30,000 would transform both the Chesterton and Charles buildings.

We are delighted to tell you that last year’s Schools’ Fund raised £28,000, thanks to gifts from parents, grandparents, Old Girls, Old Loughburians and staff.

LGS Cricket Scoreboard - The generosity of one anonymous benefactor ensured that the electronic cricket scoreboard was installed ready for the 2011 season.

High School Sixth Form - Donated funds were combined with a grant from the LHS PA to finance the refurbishment of the Year 13 social area in the Chesterton Building.

Fairfield's Reception Patio - the younger children now have improved outdoor pay space thanks to a grant from Fairfield PTA and School Fund donations.

The Music School - Some donors supported musical instruments and musical workshops. In addition, the Fairfield Year 2 Strings appeal raised over £2000 which has bought 17 violins and three cellos!   The appeal is still open for this academic year 2011-12 since more instruments are needed.

LGS Sixth Form Centre
- H1 is transformed! The Sixth Form's new common room, in the traditional heart of the school,  combines old with modern to make an impressive and functional space.

A big ‘Thank you’ to everyone who supported last year.  If you would like to support the Schools' Fund 2011-12, please give online here or contact Susie, Mark or Eloise in the Development Office.

With Gift Aid, your gift will go much further and we can reclaim 25p for every £1 given by a UK taxpayer – and that helps us achieve the projects more quickly.
